Forty years later, the company has grown to over fifty employees with an average annual sales volume of $11 million. Still located in Cobb County, Georgia, the company remains family-owned and operated under the presidency of Barry Abernathy.

Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer

In November 2003, E. Smith Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. in Marietta, Georgia, became a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer (CFAD). We are one of only two Metropolitan Atlanta Carrier dealers to have earned such an honor as of November 2003. This replacement sales and service based program has been developed by Carrier Corporation on a national basis to “build equity for the top Carrier dealers, as a group, and drive sales growth and profitability for them. The program focus will be on driving up customer satisfaction both at the dealer and consumer level with the Carrier brand,” according to the CFAD literature.

There are a host of requirements to become a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer, and only when these conditions are met can the dealer become certified. This program requires that at least 50% of the service staff be NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certified. NATE is an independent organization that administers rigorous tests encompassing many areas of technical expertise. All residential replacement installations will be installed or inspected by a NATE certified technician. At least one of the primary sales persons from the CFAD Company must be certified through Carrier University, specializing in training and information on Carrier products. All retail sales must be accompanied by a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Customers purchasing replacement systems will receive a customer satisfaction survey to send in to Carrier Corporation. CFAD dealers must maintain a stringent 85% or higher satisfaction level among customers to continue in the program.

Carrier Factory Authorized Dealerships must also adhere to a list of business practices that help assure protection and satisfaction for our customers. CFAD participants must carry a minimum of one million dollars of liability insurance, properly insure all business vehicles, and carry Workers Compensation on employees. We must be licensed contactors and follow all EPA guidelines for refrigerant use and service. And of course, we must attend Carrier product introductions and trainings. This commitment by E. Smith Heating and Air Conditioning and Carrier Corporation signals a new standard of excellence, backed by expert training and consistently high standards. The marriage of Carrier’s 102 years in the air conditioning business and E. Smith Heating and Air Conditioning’s 42 years serving north metro Atlanta is a union that will benefit customers for years to come.

President's Award

The President’s Award is an annual award to a select group of Carrier Factory Authorized Dealers who achieve high scores on a set of criteria established each year by the Carrier brand. The award criteria will support and maintain a continual emphasis on sales leadership and on identifying dealers who are model Factory Authorized Dealers.

In addition to the awards and recognition, each President’s Award winner will be invited to serve as part of a national sounding board to the Carrier brand leadership team to help further FAD program enhancements and contribute toward improvements to brand initiatives and its dealer support programs. President’s Award winners will also be asked to serve as role models, share “best practices” and otherwise offer peer mentoring to help cultivate excellence among the FAD group as a whole.

Carrier Dealer Hall of Fame

In addition to creating the air conditioning industry, Willis Carrier established the first Carrier dealership. It was founded upon and driven by a set of principles described by one of his company partners, Edward T. Murphy in the book, Willis Carrier: The Father of Air Conditioning.

The Carrier Dealer Hall of Fame is for dealers who represent the same spirit of leadership that Murphy described:

…We had selected a business that contributes to better health and living for people by which a real service is rendered to mankind.

The Carrier Dealer Hall of Fame is formal recognition of individual dealers for their long-standing loyalty to the Carrier brand, and the industry who meet the following criteria:
